The Princess and the Prince

My daughter’s kindergarten class had a medieval theme project and each needed to write a story within the theme. At first I thought they all did the same story but some kids wrote about princes and dragons, others about different kinds of princesses. This is what my daughter Elsa wrote and once I read it, I knew it was perfect to share.

“The Princess and the Prince by Elsa Jerez-Young”

“Once upon a time there was a princess.”

“Her name was Eliza. A dragon took her.”

“The dragon was hungry.”

“The prince was on a horse.”

“The prince fought the dragon.”

“The prince won!”

“They marry.”

“And they lived happily ever after.”

“My name is Elsa Young. I am 5 years old. I am in Mrs. Cubero’s kindergarten class at PVPV/Rawlings Elementary School. My favorite subject is library. When I am not in school I like to play birdy.”

The symbolism is perfect. We may have not had to face a literal dragon but it’s a good metaphor for the immigration system…
