History in the Making

So today is probably one of the most important historic moments of my lifetime — the 2008 presidential election where (I hope) the first African-American president will be elected.

It is surreal being an ex-pat during this whole experience. It’s like I see my country both as my own and as a foreigner; I am both invested in the outcome and also on the outside.

But I voted. it was a hassle, trekking to the Consultate, waiting in the line, getting my absentee ballot and then being told that there were no envelopes to mail it with. Then going home, getting my envelopes and going to a mail center and finally sending it out.

Maybe it won’t matter but I needed to say that I voted, especially on this important day and that, I most decidedly did.
